History of the Parade
Out of a need to bring the holiday sprit to Middle River the parade was born. After seeing other parades Jim High (of Baltimore Boating Center) teamed up with Chesapeake Bay Memories & Co-Chair Nick Hock to produce the first few parades in their early years with the goal of bringing together the communities and helping those in need. Not wanting to let the parade have a chance to lose momentum this team of volunteers vowed to keep it alive. Many additional people have stepped up in the shadows to help bring this event to life. But the core team that makes the magic happen every year has become Santas Workshop on the Bay. Pat Williford (Stansbury Yacht Basin) is another one of those elfs who behind the scenes steps up every year to make sure the parade runs smoothly and offers the Marina with no hesitation and can be found out on the piers helping to get everyone in a slip safely. All of this happens because of the generosity of the community. High adds, Everything is donated, Our sponsors who donate to captains packages help to get the captains in the holiday sprit to our Safety Partners. From the Local Fire and Police Boats to the Tow Boats who help manage 90+ boats in complete darkness. Everyone donates their time for the sake of delivering a great night on the river. Off the river and just as important Elfs also step up and do double duty bringing Santa to help collect items to help others in need in our community. Along with the Local Fire Companies who standby at the public viewing areas to ensure this event goes off without a hitch.
Each captain who registers and participates takes home over a $300 package from sponsors which includes $25 gift cards from waterfront restaurant and Pizza John’s and if that was not enough Baltimore Boating Center and Stansbury Yacht Basin throw paddle board and kayak rentals on top.
Captains must text their name, address, and boat size to (410) 463-2686 to register. There is no fee to enter your boat in the parade.
