Community Leadership and Learning Center

Chesapeake Bay Memories Charities has benefited over 13,000 Baltimore County children during its first seven years. With the help of 2006 and 2007 $65,000 Community Investment Tax Credit (CITC) awards and support from local businesses, our Community Leadership and Learning Center awarded $25,000 in Scholarships to Eastern Baltimore County High School Students in exchange for their successful completion of our Community Leadership Program which gets them better acquainted with various stakeholders in their community through multiple levels of collaboration while leading a Baltimore County waterfront-related community improvement project of the team’s choice.

We completed a pilot program summer 2005 awarding $10,000 in scholarships shared by 15 Eastern Baltimore County high school students who were selected from an original pool of 75 impressive applicants after three levels of interviews. These 15 students participated as members of our 2005 Community Leadership team. Participants expressed that they were exposed to new experiences and developed valuable leadership skills while gaining exposure to people and issues in their communities with which they were formerly unaware. They excelled in their chosen community team project by establishing a Middle River Watershed Community Action Coalition to get people aware, excited, and involved in improving Middle River’s water quality.

We received an enthusiastic response from local high school students who wish to be considered for our 2009 program. Our review process is very competitive. Students ages 14-18 who welcome the opportunity to make a difference in their community while receiving training that will benefit them for a lifetime while preparing them to be informed and active citizens of their communities are encouraged to apply for our program.

Resumes for the 2010 Leadership Team will be accepted beginning April 1, 2010. Students will be contacted for interviews in mid-May 2010. Successful candidates will be notified June 1, 2009.
