Meet Our Founder, Penny
Penny is the Founder of Chesapeake Bay Memories Charities, and the driving catalyst that fuels the 7 year old all-volunteer run Eastern Baltimore County based charitable education organization dedicated to providing public access to experiencing the multi-faceted significance of the Chesapeake Bay to encourage preservation through education.
During the organization’s first seven years, Chesapeake Bay Memories Charities has benefited over 13,000 local children through participation in Chesapeake Bay stewardship and leadership programs.
The daughter of a retired Social Worker and Homemaker both committed to lifelong community service, Penelope Soteria was born and raised in Eastern Baltimore County, Maryland and developed her concern and passion for marine wildlife during high school when she worked and volunteered at the National Aquarium of Baltimore.
Penny is a 1995 graduate of Goucher College and 2000 graduate of The Johns Hopkins University School of Continuing Studies. She is the first woman in her immediate family to attend and graduate from college. Now 36 years old, she has possessed her Maryland CPA license since 1996 and has over 13 years experience in financial and organizational management, training, and teaching ages 5 to over 60.
She is a trained member of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation Speaker’s Bureau and welcomes the opportunity to educate the public and advocate responsible care and enjoyment of our precious Chesapeake Bay.
